5 Day Functional Restoration Programme

This programme is aimed at individuals who are still at work yet feel that their lifestyles are changing to accommodate their pain.  It offers complete information on understanding the problem, the pain it may cause and how it can be managed in the future, thus minimising its effect on the individuals life. Suitable candidates for this programme will not have any altered psychology.  This programme is tailored to both a non-residential and residential programme, although it is recommended that individuals attend on a residential programme to gain optimum results.

Duration

Pre-treatment, attendance spent over a 5 day period, Monday to Friday with a follow-up day after 4-6 weeks.  

Assessment and outcome measures

Self efficacy questionnaire, pain scores to include SF 36. CSQ, speed walk, stairs, sit to stand tests. 

Follow up

Ideally we would like to see patients after a 6 and 12 month period post discharge from a programme.

The programmes are delivered in our purpose built centres, using the facilities of local 4* Hotel with a superior leisure complex and accommodation.

Suitability

Persons will be at work yet have the occasional day off during the year due to their pain and do feel that their lifestyles are changing to accommodate their pain. 

Selection

A clinical physiotherapy assessment plus range of measures.  Most  people who attend will be  working and generally be in good health.

Description

Group programme of up to 10 persons.

The aim of the programme is to allow people with intermittent musculoskeletal pain to understand the mechanisms of pain, overcome fear movement and damage, improve their posture, range of movement, strength and fitness, to manage their pain effectively. Specifically:

  • Education into the cause and nature of pain with particular emphasis on the distinction between pain and damage.
  • Aim to teach self management techniques.
  • Aim to in-corporate an individual exercise programme to improve strength, and range of movement and general fitness, with particular emphasis on spinal stability.
  • General health education with introduction to long term fitness maintenance.
